Healthy Recipe Competition
With around one in four Australian children overweight or obese, Australian avocado growers have joined forces with the NRL's One Community program to help footy heroes teach families about healthy eating.
"Obesity in children is emerging as one of Australia's most serious health issues and because overweight children become overweight adults it is important to address this problem early," says Mario Fenech from NRL's One Community.
"It's not just NRL players who need to lead a healthy and active lifestyle - it's important for everyone. That's why in 2009 we've launched our 'eat well, play well, stay well' program. Through One Community, the NRL is focused on using the profile of the game to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity," he says.
"What you eat plays a key role in how much energy you have and avocados are full of energy," says Zoe Bingley-Pullin, nutritionist and internationally-trained chef.
To celebrate the partnership between avocado growers and the NRL, and to encourage healthy eating, each NRL Club's Health Ambassador has nominated their favourite avocado recipe.
Footy fans could win tickets to the 2009 NRL Grand Final and a signed jersey from the winning team (and much needed cash for their NRL club's healthy living program) by voting for their favourite recipe.
For your chance to win and to help support your NRL club, choose your favourite avocado recipe that our health ambassadors love and tell us in 25 words or less what it is that you love about that recipe.
The winner will receive 2 tickets to the 2009 Grand Final as well as a signed premiership jersey. The NRL team that receives the most votes for their recipe will win $5,000 towards their health program.
Once you've voted, get cooking and enjoy the yummy taste of avocados at home with your family, just like our NRL players do!!
