Alan Tongue is a Tamworth boy who's represented Australia in the Prime Minister's XIII and NSW Country, the brave captain of the Canberra Raiders, and one of the nominees for the 2010 Favourite Son award. The Heart of the Game asked him a few questions about footy, women in league, and the best advice his mum's ever given him.
What do you remember about your first ever game of league?
Playing alongside my older brother Paul wearing a magpies jersey.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
The only two options I considered were to be a farmer or a rugby league player.
What's the best advice your mum ever gave you?
Make the most of your oppurtunities, and always put your heart into your work!
Has your mum ever given you any footy advice?
Be humble in victory and defeat. Play hard but fair, and lead by example.
What's the best compliment a female fan's ever given you?
" I admire the way you conduct yourself on and off the field "
Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
I just don't like to be rushed on game day so I make sure I turn up early watch the juniors and get myself ready with plenty of time to spare.
Favourite player to play with?
My Top three are Ruben Wiki, Clinton Schifcofske and last but not least Josh Miller.
Favourite ground?
Obviously, Canberra Stadium! But I also enjoy the atmosphere at Dairy Farmers stadium in North QLD
