Newcastle Knights fan, Country Music singer, and Women in League Ambassador answers some questions about her love of Rugby League.
1. How did your footy fandom begin?
A) I fell in love with Football through my dad's love of the game. He used to take me and my three older brothers along to all the home games and we all grew to love the time together with Dad and the excitement of the game. Even though I was the only girl, I was quite a Tom Boy and I fitted right in. My brothers and I used to mess around in the yard playing footy and my brothers all played in local clubs growing up.
2. Can you tell us a little bit about your role with the Knights?
A) I am a huge fan of the Newcastle Knights and always will be. I have had the opportunity to play at lots of home games and sing the National Anthem before kick off and this always makes me feel so proud. I am also a very proud Novocastrian and I think the Knights represent a big part of what makes Newcastle so great. To be asked to be the official Women in League ambassador for the Knights is a huge honor to me and I will wear the title loud and proud.
3. You live/have lived in Nashville, do you miss the footy while you're away? Any getting up in the middle of the night to watch Knights or SOO games online?
A) I missed the footy terribly when I was over seas, but I was lucky enough to have my Dad updating me every time we spoke on the phone, so I was always in the loop on the Knights games.
4. You write a lot of music drawing on personal experience, any songs about rugby league in the works? What about a Tina Turner style appearance in an NRL ad? :)
A) I tend to write most of my songs from personal experience so perhaps I will write a song about the great vibe and my screaming voice at a Knights game one day! :) I would LOVE to have a song used for the NRL, in fact it's kind of a goal of mine.
5. How important do you think women are to rugby league?
A) I personally think women are very important in Rugby League! I am a big supporter myself and I have many girl friends who are as well. Also, what would we do without the sweet Newcastle Knights cheerleaders looking beautiful and keeping people enthused throughout the games!
6. Favourite player?
A) Without a doubt, hands down, Andrew Johns. Brilliant football player.
7. Any special footy memories you'd want to share
A) My favourite memory is getting to go around one year after singing the Anthem and getting all the knights to sign my jersey for me and personally meet them all. Was a real buzz for me, but I always love going to the games with my brothers and my dad and screaming at the top of our lungs and loving it, like old times.
