At the end of the 2011 NRL season, Rhys Wesser retired from playing professional Rugby League after an extensive career at both the Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs. The 33 year old had been playing at the NRL level for 15 years before making his decision. During his playing career Wesser received some great honours, including representing Queensland in the State of Origin and playing in the Indigenous side in 2008 in the World Cup pre-game. During the Panthers' golden period in the early 2000s, Wesser was a lethal attacking weapon and holds the try-scoring record at Penrith with 113 - and has amassed a whopping 129 tries for his career. "I've been lucky enough to play with some wonderful players over the past 14 years and I've met a lot of great people, some of whom will be friends for life”, said Wesser. Post footy, Wesser looked forward to the next chapter of his career. Since hanging up his boots, Wesser has gone on to pursue his passion for making a difference in the community through his work in the community department at the South Sydney Rabbitohs and as one of Rugby League’s One Community Ambassadors. | | | | | Career Highlights | | | 2003 | Most Tries in a season by a Fullback (25) | | 2003 | Premiership (Panthers 18 v Roosters 6) | | 2004 | Queensland State of Origin Team | | | | | | | | Profile | | | | D.O.B: | | 31 March, 1979 | | | Rep Honours: | | Indigenous All Stars 2009, QLD 2004, 2005, 2006 | | | Birthplace: | | Rockhanpton, QLD | | | Retired: | | 2011 | | | First Grade Debut: | | 1998 | | | First Grade Games: | | 218 | | | Clubs: | | Penrith Panthers, South Sydney Rabbitohs | | | Position: | | Fullback | | | Other Honours: | | Penrith 40th year anniversary team | | |
